Yes, something substantive and enduring in the way of public policy must be formulated for airline policy, and more particularly QAN. How much public (taxpayers) money has been torched on this perennial underperformer since privatisation in 1995? Preceding this current corporate scandal under the guidance of Chairman Goyder and the former CEO, the latter seemingly seeking to avoid any form of accountability for his deployment of the $2.7 Bn granted by the then LNP Govt to the airline to avoid likely bankruptcy, QAN was the beneficiary of ongoing public inputs, not enjoyed by many other sectors, ie excluding the banking sector of course.

Now the current Federal Labor Govt has an openly stated policy of ensuring the ongoing viability of the QAN virtual monopoly. Corporate greed seems to be a standing item in the QAN Boardroom. Then QAN CEO (Geoff Dixon) proposed remuneration would have him the highest paid airline CEO in the world.

Public policy should bring an end to the embedded exploitation of "the national carrier for the Island nation" that only compounds into more and more sense of expectation and entitlement to these corporate monopolies.

If the re-nationalisation of QAN back into public ownership and ceases the ineptitude and tenure of the likes of the current Board, and that odious in-house lawyer, then so be it. In any case, we could not be any worse off than currently, with what seems to be a wobbly and financially stricken QAN, then so be it.
