'Reliability' typically means 'cancellations'.

Internationally, QAN is trying to do too much with too few aircraft (and presumably crews). Many routes are not daily, so if there's a cancellation, unless QAN decides to place passengers on competitors (IF they have available seats!), then in a worst case scenario one could be stuck for days. Latter length is unusual, but occasionally can occur.

It not only needs to reduce cancellations, but increase punctuality. Even on benign weather days, quite a few flights run late: I bet it's not all due to claimed air traffic controller shortages as these individuals go off sick, but sometimes due to QAN not being organised/having insufficient staff/no relief staff if pilots are not where they should be when another aircraft runs late and so on.

If as we've seen today there's no accountability at the top, middle managers and especially coalface passenger-facing staff will in many cases feel disenfranchised.
