Dominant aviation sector player Qantas is price gouging, as illustrated in its blocking of Qatar's expansion "without reasonable justification", former competition boss Allan Fels says in his report into unfair pricing practices in Australia.
While he called on the ACCC to have more powers to conduct price investigations, he also specifically recommended the Federal Government "use the opportunity of its current aviation review" to remove restrictions on international and domestic competition and also called on any remaining restrictions to be reviewed by the Treasury-led Competition Policy.
The report on was commissioned by Australian Council of Trade Unions.
