Are you aware that JAPAN imposes a 700% tariff on rice grown in the US (and Australian grown rice) ?. Rice in Japan sells to the public for $6.00/Kg and the farmers are paid about $5/Kg. The tariff imposed on imported rice is US$2.40/Kg. The world rice price is about 50c/Kg.
Free trade exists in many products around the world but "protectionism" is always present for some products in some countries.
