Australian Airlines was started by Qantas. It was meant to be a semi budget carrier for bringing Asian tourists to Australia. It was quietly closed when Jetstar started international flying. At least until recently, Jetstar was being subsidised by the Qantas parent company to operate some of the Australian Airlines routes. That helped Jetstar show some profitability and also helped Qantas International to show losses in the years when it suited their purposes to do so.
Impulse was reasonably successful until Qantas offered them enough money to remove that competition. Impulse became the entity that morphed into Jetstar.
Kendall, East West and Hazelton were all bought by Ansett. The Ansett collapse saw the liquidators sell off these entities into what became Rex.
