Most (decent) analysts are forecasting Aussie debts service ratios to edge towards 20% in 2023. That's levels not seen since 2008.
If the lag effect of monetary policy were not already foreign to some, the local banking scene makes it even more obscure. By late 2023 some brighter analysts are forecasting only 60% of rate rises will have been felt (fixed to floating unravel through 2023/24).
The Aussie consumer is about to suffer an extended period of enforced frugalness. I wonder which will go first. Paying the mortgage? Paying the bills? Paying for food? Kids Education? Healhtcare? Paying for a holiday to the Gold Coast?
