If you look back at RBA activity there is a strong correlation between what Paul Keating did and said and RBA activity, he discovered that he could achieve political results by directing the RBA activities
I agree the Covid debacle has cost lots for minimum return but IMHO you have to put your focus much further back in time
Australia has had a unhealthy focus on home ownership for about 100 years, so that is not new and this focus has been IMHO government policy as they have also gradually abdicated any responsibility for social housing and have had to boost private sector to cover their behinds
Policy like NGT which IMHO should never have been introduced but now that it is there should never be repealed
