The issue is that in uncertain times with deteriorating economic circumstances no one is going to vote for anyone who tells them that they need to live within their means and put up with cutbacks . We've seen the same scenario play out through Europe and of course culturally most Europeans are nothing like Australians who take it even worse

This of course is the conundrum for politicians of this era . Do I want power or do I want to map out a plan that is right . Well it's an easy answer for politicians of the left because they're going to do whatever they'd do in any economic circumstances ,so they're seen as saving people from terrible outcomes . For politicians of the right it's a far more difficult question one that they invariably shirk and end up with a hotch potch of ideas that appease those disaffected too strongly for them to stomach but not strongly enough to make any difference.

Ultimately countries just get run into the ground until it's self evident that drastic action is needed but of course by that time there are so many fringe and interest groups who get a political voice that righting the ship is all but impossible . Have a look at the makeup of the Victorian upper house for evidence.

In a nutshell that's what's happening to this country
