That then raises the question about whether or not franking credits are available prior to the actual payment of the tax (and whether or not YAL will pay the tax in advance). I don't know the position on that under tax law.
What I mean is, even though YAL will complete its financial year on 30 December 2022, the process of completing its audit, working out its tax liability and paying that tax will take a little bit of time, and YAL probably won't yet know its exact tax liability (nor have paid any tax) at the time the dividend is announced. That may mean that no franking is available.
Furthermore, franking credits are only a benefit to local investors. The majority Chinese owners derive no benefit from the franking credits.
