Populist politics is the scourge of the Earth for the moment. Each of these a-wipes may find a different bunch of uneducated morons to support them but the end result is always the same ----- polarising destruction of democracy, corrupt nepotism and patronage , use of office for private gain, autocratic central rule, media censure, political prisons and so on.
I'm an old fashioned conservative in many ways. I hate the idea of a "dear leader" telling me what I can or cannot do but there are many who seek comfort in the idea of a dear leader.
I can't say whether or not decentralized governments in the middle east will work. I can say that autocratic patronage systems and theocracies do not.
