Just spent a weekend in the Lennox Head, Bryon, Bangalow, Mullimbimby area and did lots of hill driving in the arc between Bangalow and Mullimbimby.

Yes there are lots of lock the gates signs that standout, by design obviously ... but there are by my estimate there are even more gates that just blend appropriately into the landscape free from such gaudy, visual pollution.

I'll also opine, that the majority of people with lock the gate signs are doing it more for appeasement to avoid harrassment from a few misdirected activists in the region.

Lastly, seeing lock the gate signs on high, rickety rural roads winding through rainforests is weirdly overdramatic imo as no self respecting gas operator would site a gas well in such terrain and at such elevation.
