What reasons will you give your children for the massive financial burden you will give them, for the loss of their freedoms by subsidising an unelected body and making the Goldman Sachs of this world wealthier and in control of pricing life (yes carbon is the key to organic life)?
A global ETS will be the systematic transfer of their birth right and their right to manage their country as they see fit. Even Hansen sees the ETS for what it is. It will not achieve any meaningful reduction and only benefit the traders in carbon.
I am a sceptic, but am even more sceptical of the politics invovled and the push by the money men. Money gained from the ETS will be used by governments to transfer wealth for desired political outcomes, the true socialist nevana.
We should do something for the environment because we can and it is the right thing to do, regardless of the religion of climate change. We should do this in a measured and calculated way, that produces enduring benefits and provides real jobs and assets - not just another financial bubble.
