I would stand by by reluctance to accept possibly flawed scientific theory, particularly when politics gets in the way of preventing the release of contrary evidence.
Many scientific studies have been accepted as gospel only to find that they were a crock of $@%@. For example, the surgeon who developed and performed thousands of lobotomies was given a nobel prize for his outstanding contribution to the medical world. I bet a lot of the families who put their children through this operation wished they had questioned the scientific data more thoroughly.
