I dont know that much about how the votes work for the minor parties or the independents......
however I did become aware that by voting for the greens, their preference went to the labor party....
I was putting in a protest vote against the liberals, to teach them a lesson, but I would never have voted for the labor camp....
my understanding is the two major perties get the majority of the votes in most electorates....thats easy..and straight forward.....
but once you need to do a protest vote, and vote for another non major....you need to know where their preferences will go....otherwise you could be voting for a major by default...
you welcome to correct me if I am wrong.....I dont know enough, did not care about the minor parties to ever warrant further research....until the situation noted above
