Plush, all he experienced was a cathartic release from having a good listener listen to all his sins. A very useful and helpful experience if the listener knows how to listen without judgement, but that's all there was to the situation. Since most priests are very judgemental, he will find that 'release' a very difficult experience to repeat. It was just a case of having one person ( avery skillfull priest in this case) accept you warts and all. This is not the same as redemption.
