I lived in the southern part of Germany for 12 years in a village surrounded by 18 gigantic windmills.
No issues - no complaints. Not even a chopped up crow. They look great and keep quite a few locals employed.
Wind's for free (if there is any). Gas always costs.
The old folks were grumpy for some time (didn't like 'change')but they got used to them and are proud of them now.
Combining different systems is the way to go,to stay as independent as possible.
