China is rapidly bringing it's population into the 21st century . So that means huge amounts of electricity . So at the moment the quickest , easiest way to do that is to build coal fired power .
So yes , they are building new coal fired power stations . Much larger more efficient stations with 30% less emissions according to this article .Further to that , they are leading the world in investment in renewables , spending some $56 billion dollars last year . So they are not only building coal fired power , they are building plenty of the other types as well .
So obviously they are committed to cleaner energy in whatever form that may take .
What do you expect them to do ? Halt their nation developing progress until such time as renewables are 100% baseload ?
