At this instant in time, that's absolutely true. That's why all sensible governments are setting a few decades as the timeframe for the transition. All the necessary technology to get baseload from renewables already exists at a combined cost of maybe 2-3x the current cost of coal - the challenge now is to massively ramp up production and implementation to bring economies of scale into play. The costs will come way down (a simple analysis of trends in solar costs will show you the inevitability of that), while the trajectory in price of coal-fired power is inexorably upward.
