    Can't say I agree that there will be no more coal fired plants built in Australia . The fact is that right now we can't replace base load with renewables . Even if the govt were to have a major change of face and commit to trying to achieve that goal starting today , it might take 15 or 20 years to achieve . Maybe . Let alone the political dramas along the way .

    The coal fired power stations here in Victoria are getting pretty long in the tooth . Loy Yang is probably the youngest and it was built in the late 80's . The Hazelwood power station was built in the 60's . I can't see it lasting another 30 years .

    There are some pretty good developments in lower emission coal coming along . I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of hybrid combined cycle versions built in order to bridge us until such time as renewables and storage are developed sufficiently enough to take over .
