    Yes, you can engineer anything- but, the cost in dollars, resources, energy and energy efficiency would be massive.

    And, politically, can you imagine the greens being comfortable with a bloody big salt water pool high up with massive earthworks that would make the superpit look like a kids sandpit, then running that water downhill into the ocean and back again, all powered by a giant wind farm?

    Well, they might be stupid enough if you told em it was sustainable

    Our governments are too scared these days to fund building roads - who the hell would fund such a massive inefficient project?

    Personally, if I had an ocean nearby and I was desperate, I would look to the ocean for possibilities. 2/3's of the planet is covered in water.

    The wind stops, the sun goes out. The tide always runs predictibly.
