Facts are sun not shining wind not blowing is when baseload is needed, batteries arnt there yet to replace,
Aus no nuclear so all baseload is gas and coal, coal being majority.
if coal generation assets loosing 400m as u say, if i was AGL i would stick it to the gov turn off 1 or more coal assets (i.e Liddel shut it down tomorow) and good luck to ppl needing their lights on, get the prices up bigtime remind the gov why baseload is needed, obvs unrealistic,
but the point is coal generation assets needed for baseload, if they loosing money there has to be subsidies by gov for their continued required use.
agl is no charity, aus gov has stepped in to build kurri kurri gas plant to fill liddell, thereby subsidising lower elec price for consumers, well in AGL perspective stick it to the gov or get their subsidy for coal assets that are needed and costing AGL shareholders billions of dollars.
