With the rapid advances in technology wind turbines could soon have their towers housing batteries to supply their own base load or feed excess power to a single baseload battery power station.
Another advantage with solar power are the local power sources that reduce the need for a national network. Most of the current cost is building and maintaining that national network, 90% was a figure I saw recently. Local renewable energy makes that redundant and is one of reasons this government is so desperate to support coal after spending $20billion? on upgrading that network for a declining market.
