You should really read the paper I opened the thread with if your interested in this application as it relates to Lynas. Especially Section 5.3.
I'm not sure what you're describing, but it sounds like a hybrid between a PMSG (permanent magnet synchronous generator) and a rare-earth-free DFIG or EESG. Once you finish studying that paper, I hope you'll understand why that ain't happening.

I could care less about grid hookup. Those monster inverters are crazy expensive, but the only concern I have as a Lynas investor is whether turbines are moving towards or away from NdFeB and grid hookup is not an issue for PMSGs.

Onshore maintenance is a headache and simple PMSGs are certain to penetrate that market IF NdFeB supplies are assured. There's little question about that. Maintenance and capacity factor / efficiency; those are the key metrics.

Bottom line is good for Lynas's: The fast-growing offshore wind energy market is going to be dominated by large (>10MW) maintenance-free DD-PMSGs like the GE Haliade-X just announced.

P.s. While I'm 99+% sure that GE turbine is PMSG, I could not find a link to definitive tech data. If you have one, please share here. TIA.
