Kennedy near Hughenden is 250km from the grid terminus and substation at Charters Towers. No wonder it is limited to 5Mw. What were they thinking to build without a rolled gold commitment to connect it to the grid???? If anyone knows better, please inform us.
A syncon is an old-fashioned way to stabilise voltage. A big gyroscope/electric motor with inertia that is sped up by absorbing voltage or slows down discharging voltage.
Well a battery can serve that function too, cheaper and with real storage capacity.
The forthcoming report on the recent islanding of SA and the role the three big batteries played might advance thinking a little.
