Some years ago I bought a notebook computer when Vista was on offer. However, after hunting around I found one shop in my region that still had a notebook with Windows XP installed. Although it was a display model, I bought it and never had any problems with it.
Last year I bought an ultrabook computer with SSD when Windows 8 was on offer. However, after hunting around I found one shop in my region that still had an ultrabook with Windows 7 installed. Although it was a display model, I bought it and never had any problems with it. After my excellent experience with XP, I was anxious as to how W7 would work, but so far W7 has been very good.
In another 2 or 3 years I will probably buy the last display model ultrabook/tablet available with Windows 10 installed.
