re: windows is one sick puppy ... gyro Hi Gyro ... I recommend folks go for XP Pro as it is based on WinNT platform which is more stable and robust.
I run two HDD's one of which is a backup of all my files which I do weekly. I also do an 'off computer' backup on CD. If the house catches on fire I plan to grab the CD backup disk in one hand and mrs rem in the other ... lol
Providing you back up 'off computer' you can format/reinstall yourself easily these days as most PC's will boot from the CD and all you have to do is put your XP disk in the CD and hit the restart button ... follow the prompts ... it is basically auto-install these days.
Madmacs ... SP2 slows XP Pro ... that is what I am fearing most. It happened to me with SP1 and SP1a and I am running P4 1.5Gz and 512Ram.
Arthur ... yes I remember you discussing Firefox ... I am thinking about installing it also. Microsoft is basically dead in the water due to security problems with XP. And the world is not waiting for Gates to get his finger out ... IE6 has a million holes in it and the world wants things like Google functionality and the security of Firefox as a browser.
I think it is 'make or break' for Microsoft right now and if you look into Microsoft Community Newsgroups it is full of folks with major problems with the XP2 service pack and I am dreading having to do it. Maybe Gates doesn't care as he has Longhorn coming along which he may use to solve the functionality problems. The other thing about XP is that since he made it pirate-proof, most people didn't upgrade ... since it came out in 2001 only now do 26% of PC's have XP installed.
Cheers ... tight stops.
This is only my view ... read the red stuff.
