Some discussion RE health warning labels on wine being discussed on another thread. Thought I'd bring it over to the wine thread.
The proposal to have graphic images and health warnings on alcohol labels has been floating around for a long time. Wine producers and our various lobbying groups oppose this idea however as an act of good faith both Treasury and Accolade Wine groups (which account for 80% + of wine production in Aus) as well as some other large players have taken steps to address this issue to demonstrate that as an industry we are responsible and can self regulate.
As of last year on all of their back labels there is either an image of a pregnant woman holding a glass of wine with a cross through it and/or the statement that drinking while pregnant is dangerous..... It is located adjacent to the number of standard drinks, allergens and sulphites 220 statements. It is similar to what is done in the USA which I believe is legislated and has been applicable to Aussie producers exporting to that market.
