We all know that wine tasting is one big con. Google "blind wine tasting" and you will see what I mean.
James Halliday reviewed the latest Grange in the Australian this weekend. He's 81. If his senses have gone the same way as mine at 76 then he would be completely unqualified to make an assessment.
If a priest reverts to atheism, he must be reluctant to tell his church of that fact since he would lose his livelihood. He becomes a closet atheist maybe,
The same might apply to an aging wine judge. Would he ever admit to his tastes buds and sense of smell being shot? He would lose prestige maybe. And income too perhaps. How could he ever be tested? How do you ever test a wine judge? By the verbosity of their prose?
