I am a little sceptical of the current scenario of building a HPAL plant at Wingellina which is in the middle of nowhere. It will require over 500km of mostly new road for trucking in 400,000 tons of sulfur and other inputs and trucking out the concentrates, plus 800km by existing rail. Going over the PFS from Sept 08 it mentions the tailings generated will include 5 million tons of iron precipitate at 35% Fe, which would be studied further. I cant find any more updates on this potential iron by-product, probably because under the current transport scenario it wouldn't work. Considering there is obviously strong interest in Wingellina by the Chinese, I wonder if they would consider building a rail line running straight south which would unlock the value of the iron and no longer require a HPAL plant in the desert, processing could be done in China. Has anyone heard other options like this for Wingellina?
