I sent the email and got a reply from Ken. The reply did not confirm, deny or mention NTC's involvement with the DEWA bid. The reply did however mention that NTC will be displaying a smart meter with Etisalat and Landis+Gyr at GITEX.

So what to make of this??? Well I did asked a similar question about the Vodafone UK smart meter bid earlier this year and the reply was "NTC was no longer involved with the UK bid". So I now have to guess between:

A) The absence of a response to this question means NTC are still a chance, and its very close.
B) Ken simply didn't want to answer the question for whatever reason, positive or negative.
C) The DEWA smart meter project is not happening.

I doubt Option C because the UAE seems very proactive and money is not an issue. I was guessing that the announcement would have been made this week at GITEX but obviously I was wrong.

At the very least, it is good to see that Etisalat has a smart meter solution with Landis+Gyr and NTC.
