The Chinese are the biggest foreign investor in Africa, surpassing Europe or the US.
They invest with a simple cost-benefit analysis and, unlike Europe or the US, have no problem dealing with despots or authoritarian/totalitarian regimes. Unlike the west, China does not place conditions on their investment unrelated to cold hard cash, such as recipient countries realising improvements in human rights or governance arrangements.
After centuries of Europe and the US belittling them, African countries love China for treating them as equals. China has much of the continent wrapped around thier little finger.
