Just for the record, hooba: I am by no means well informed about the machinations of short selling, but I can affirm from personal observation that little biotechs the size of CDY can be aggresively and persistently shorted: case in point being Avexa ('AVX') earlier this year. There were days when Avexa was one of the most aggressively shorted stocks on the asx. (by 'aggressive' I mean shorts as a % of total movements for the day).
I haven't scanned through yesterday's shorters list, but I would assume there's heaps of small-cap companies in there.
As for brokers not letting anyone do it, I would guess that it's brokers doing it?? (and that's just a guess).
In other words CDY is as liable aS any other company to become a short target. It's just a pity we can't tell until after the event.
