Why don't you research the number of new coal fired power plants that are being built or proposed in mainland China and elsewhere in Asia?
Japan recently opened a new plant that will operate beyond 2050.
Solar and wind energy aren't going to help on hot, still nights in Oz, are they?
Given how coal provides us with huge export income and reliable 24/7 baseload electricity at an affordable cost, we ought celebrate how God gave Australia large reserves of thermal coal (plus coking coal needed for other purposes).
'Hurry up and die' is an unpleasant narrative for thousands of Australians who directly benefit from employment in that subsector. The indirect benefits flow through even to states such as Tasmania where mining is now a relatively minor contributor to GDP. Think of cashed up miners visiting the folks, or embarking on an interstate holiday that fills airline seats and ferry sleeping berths, plus aids a rise in room occupancy at hotels, B & Bs and motels.
