Easier to ban rugby - which is not a bad idea, given adults playing children's ball games (of any kind) along with hordes of adults following it with sycophantic fervor has always bemused me. A Roman invention of sport in the ring designed to keep the masses amused and to quell talk of rebellion. And it hasn't changed much, but for the replacement of armed participants - with a child's toy . Still, if it keeps the peasantry entertained, and diverted from thoughts on more serious matters, then our governments propensity of spending Billions of taxpayer dollars on sporting stadiums is no act of benevolence, and we (not being me) are still being hoodwinked by Roman design. Works a treat now with the colosseum being beamed to every household resulting in a mass hypnosis beyond the turnstiles that the Roman governments could only dream of.
