For those interested in technology being used in the oil business,or even just technology full stop,( I'm a mad mad enthusiast when it comes to the ability of the human brain in the world of technology )here is a Halliburton drill bit being used today in the oil business.Part of the problem with yesterdays drill bits is the ever present issue of withdrawing the bit to clean the head.If you compare it to a standard drill bit, when your drilling through a piece of timber, the drill flutes become full and start jamming the bit.If you persist in doing this the bit will eventually jam tight as it is becoming hot causing swelling and increasing the size of the bit. This will cause the bit to jam or simply fail.A very expensive exercise if that happens.
Hal have invented this bit which allows them to have one continues drill which saves many $$ on time consumption. The flutes seem to be wider and possibly made of a material which allows for easier emptying of the material up the drill shaft ? SG new what he was doing when he teamed up with Halliburton.I cant post the article because of copyright but here is a pic of the head.
Thanks for the 2 wow's Whisky,I got that excited I bought another 100,000 before todays close. You can deal with my wife's questioning lol
