I think the equal pay debate overall suffers from a lack of clarity. In many organisations women do indeed get equal pay to men. However: 1. In careers where women are over represented the pay leaves a lot to be desired. Kindergarten teachers, other child care roles. This has involved historical gender bias. Consider, Nurses had to work very hard to grow their pay scale. 2. Women have time out of the workforce (a generalization). This impacts Superannuation very heavily. It is only a period of 30-40 years ago that super for men was different to women. 3. Women take the caring role for the family (and in an incredibly impactful way - with their parents), and this affects income and financial stability.
We have a genuine societal issue with the number of mature women lacking financial security.
