thanks. I’ve never ever thought of them as from the Middle East or as Arab and despite having a number of Maltese friends it never crossed my mind
so the language is based on Arabic but the country is still regarded as being part of Europe/southern Europe
so whatever are seeing is the fact that historically people roamed around the Mediterranean and languages reflect the dominant groups to a greater of lesser extent.
