I contemplated over night - though not that hard - and realised that you are indeed a grumpy old man. Dressed up in clothes of tolerance you have little tolerance for those who disagree with you - or who you believe disagree with you.
your obstinate refusal to actually pay attention to what someone has consistently said in different ways rather than your own interpretation is further sign of a closed mind and a stubborn old man.
It is not because I haven’t made my opinions clear that you have made up your own mind what I think but because you have objected to me not saying it as you would and not using the language of outrage
if you actually paid attention you might have found that our views were not so far apart but instead you have chosen to focus on that where differences are. Those differences tell us a lot about you
what you seem to be having difficulty with is that, whatever I think of Israeli actions or Netanyahu , that does not prevent me from making some sort of sense of historical context - the lead up to the 20th century and widespread pogroms and discrimination, pre and post Second World War and post 1947.
My cousin posted a photo the other day of her great aunts family. They committed suicide rather then face what they knew was coming - when they were refused passage on a ship that was to take them to freedom in the UK. They and many others sought refugee across the world and outside hitlers grasp only to find the doors closed. Centuries of fierce and deadly antisemitism found willing accomplices to Hitler.
if you don’t think that the post war guilt and rapid rise of Zionism weren’t linked and gave rise to the birth of Israel and indeed to subsequent events then your mind is unbelievably closed
And whatever you think about the US for whom I have little affection it is the whole world that has blood on their hands. Russia was first to recognise Israel. In the 1970s they allowed those that could demonstrate a familial link to Judaism to depart providing they went Israel. And so on.
If you cannot acknowledge history as a factual matter and not see that feeding any sort of intolerance usually has long tail consequences
If you think that there will not be consequences from the recognition of Palestine as a separate state at this time precisely because it has now become intimately linked to a fundamentalist Islam state and leadership you will see, if you live long enough, that you are wrong.
Those who allow their emotions to get in the way of facts (as you have on this matter) will inevitably fail to think of consequences.
Tolerance that puts aside intellect is a dangerous thing.
