    HIMPUNAN HIJAU PRESS STATEMENT
    on 27th MAY 2012
?Himpunan Hijau Continues to Strike – ‘OCCUPY BALOK- GEBENG 24-HOURS’ IS ON !?

Himpunan Hijau reaffirms our strongest commitment to see Lynas out of Malaysia. We will not allow an oppressive foreign corporate colonizer to come into our country and harm our children.

We are very disappointed with the authorities for their total disregard and ignorance of people’s wishes even after the massive display of people’s voices on 428. They have continued to be blind, deaf and heartless. The people are also extremely angered by the continued ridiculous charade by the government. The recently conducted PSC has confirmed our earlier conviction that it is a gimmick to drag the Lynas’ issue. It has served as another mouthpiece to bulldoze the Lynas’ project through.

The recent statement by the Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI), Datuk Maximus Ongkili that he still needed to consult related experts and authorities before making a decision on the Lynas’ Temporary Operating License (TOL) has not only proven his incompetency, but revealed his continuous disrespect for the people’s intelligence.

“How much longer do you want to play games with us? We challenge you to issue the TOL, or even a permanent license, if you dare. Tell us the exact date and time the ores will arrive at Gebeng. The people will be there to meet you”, said Wong Tack, chairperson of Himpunan Hijau.

The committee of Himpunan Hijau has met and we’ve decided to carry out the ‘Occupy Balok-Gebeng 24 Hours’ event. The massive event will kick off at noon, 23rd June 2012 in Balok and end at noon, 24th June 2012 in Gebeng. We expect Malaysians from all corners of the country to converge in Balok-Gebeng to kick Lynas out and reiterate our strongest commitment to uphold environment justice in our beloved country.

As we’ve said before, in the event that Lynas still has some breath left after 428, then we shall return and finish them off in Kuantan!

Himpunan Hijau also expresses our fullest support to Datuk Ambiga, Pak Samad and members of Bersih 2.0 steering committee. We strongly condemn all acts of harassment and intimidation upon Datuk Ambiga.

“The harassers can continue their despicable acts against democracy and human rights. The authorities can continue to do nothing about it. However, bear in mind, the rakyat is observing closely and we will take the appropriate action when the right time comes”’ said Wong Tack.

We call upon all Malaysians who care for the future of this country to stand united with Datuk Ambiga and her team.
