from his speech today :
Before I talk about our progress on our growth opportunities, let me put this into the context of the global
LNG market.
Liquefied natural gas has become one of the 21st century’s most sought after fuels and despite some
softening of economic growth in China during the year, demand for LNG from the Asia Pacific region is
forecast to grow by more than 90 million tonnes per annum between 2012 and 2020. This is equivalent to
the output of about 20 new LNG trains.
Natural gas is playing an increasingly large role in the energy mix of many countries around the world as
they look for cleaner energy alternatives; and we are also seeing the potential for greater use of LNG in
transportation.
With Australia home to seven of the 13 LNG projects under construction globally, it is destined to become the
world’s largest supplier before the end of the decade. But even with this growth in supply, there will still be
unmet demand.
