    My understanding is that the issue of WPL shares will be treated like any other dividend, i.e added to your assessable income in a month's time and you'll pay tax on it.

    Which seems unfair because you're going to be taxed AGAIN when you sell those shares. And you could have theoretically sold $10k of BHP and then after the demerger buy $10k of WPL without paying a cent in tax (assuming you're in the red like me).

    Basically paying income tax just to move some value from one ticker to another. Silly.

    Am I completely wrong here?
