The population has been brainwashed just as much about coal as it has about nuclear. Coal is far and away the greenest fuel, because it puts more CO2 into the atmosphere, and CO2 is highly beneficial particularly to plants but in other ways too. The planet is measurably greener over the satellite age thanks to the increased CO2 in the atmosphere (see here and here but there are many more sources). If you're frightened of global warming then you have got things back to front - global cooling is the real climate threat. Global warming brings thriving crops, greater nutrition and lower mortality. Global cooling brings the opposite, and if it's severe it hardly bears thinking about.

Australia should boost all of coal, gas and nuclear power. Renewables increase electricity costs, but other than that they are pretty harmless up to a modest percentage, above which the whole power system is threatened. SA is at that level now, and its entire power supply is on the verge of collapse.

Water makes things grow pretty good too but like CO2 too much is bad.
