"Mr Coleman told investors at Woodside's full-year earnings briefing the company was focusing more now on potential smaller targets, following through on that with an investment into prospective oil exploration acreage off the coast of Senegal and Guinea-Bissau in West Africa.
But he said Woodside was also considering more material deep-water assets in Africa.
"We'll have to think about the valuation and the cash that would be required to secure them because some of those will become long dated and the more cash that's required . . . we just really need to think through whether that's the right decision for Woodside at that point," Mr Coleman said.
"Those assets were not on the market 12 months ago. Today some of those assets are coming up and they are more interesting, but it doesn't mean we are going to buy anything."
