    Yes and no
It costs money to pipe/ ship / transfer LNG to market and shipping distance is a major cost factor as ship loses time on return journey to supply Asia from Qatar hence the supposed interest from Middle East in STO projects like PNG etc as shorter distance to Asia market .

It takes a long time to build new fleets of LNG tankers and same with new pipelines etc.

Any new supply displaces other supply and changes economics and it really depends on National power supplier in Japan, Korea for instance signing up a 20 year contract with Qatar or STO or WDS as that changes dynamic of remaining demand / supply. Australia in last 2-5 years with its crappy energy policy has upset these nearby nations and now appears to them as a unreliable source of energy due to Aussie internal politics. All these countries have taken a stance to diversify gas supply away from Australia due to aussie government threats of partial or full nationalization of gas industry and forcing cancellation of long term gas supply contracts and risk to industry of force majeure . All that dithering by aussie government stopped investment in new supply , replacement supply and ensuring existing supply stopping expansion thus aussie gas costs went up especially with bank and superfunds greenwashing and no longer wanting to participate in finance

European green governments have been doing similar to the industry in different ways and if it wasn't for Ukraine and basically a over rule of every policy just to keep the lights on gas would be in a lot worse position but at least Europe always has gas as a transition source of energy and had not ceased investment in the infrastructure .

Claimed supply often never comes to market for many reasons at proposed cost like finance , economy or scale not being reached and all the delays that come with massive projects and governments although Qatar and other countries have less issues with approvals I guess than STO and WDS for new fields , ports industrial areas environment etc

Geography plays a large part in gas supply be it mountains stopping pipelines being economic or political risk of having to run gas tankers through narrow straits or canals to destinations or long distances around roughest seas in world.
