Unfortunately that's not how the world works, or how markets work, workers always first to go in cost saving exercises. Contracting to RIO, BHP, well any FMG, Roy Hill etc taught me this over the 24 years working with them. They were always wanting more for less people working. Major share holders will also lean on them for savings in times of hardship (bear markets or commodity price falls), easiest answer is to cut the workforce and save money on wages, super, insurance etc
