A record number of appeals—776—were lodged against the extension plans, citing risks to climate, nature, and cultural heritage. Greenpeace has also been involved in legal actions and campaigns to halt Woodside's Burrup Hub, which includes the NWS project
The Federal Environment Minister, Tanya Plibersek, is now tasked with deciding whether to approve the project. Greenpeace continues to advocate for its rejection, emphasizing the environmental consequences and the need for sustainable energy solutions
