Hi Michael, my reading of your post is:

The ALP do not have a policy to directly destroys the gas/oil sectors but they know they have policies that will eventually do just that, further they hope they can win this election and then deny the extension. They don't want to deny it now because that will be too obvious


IMO:

WDS does not need the extension until 2033, by then the whole situation around transition to renewables should have crystalized and we will have a change of government before then, as most governments in Australia don't last beyond 3 terms.

Therefore likely the extension will be approved eventually.
