Where are you getting this information from? You're talking about this all being hypothetical but here is an example of an Australian company that develops energy storage solutions (Hydro, Wind, Solar, and Battery Systems). These projects are already in production too (with more in development).

"Genex wanted to keep the project entirely commercial, meaning that the project would not receive any government funding."

    https://genexpower.com.au/utility-magazine-bouldercombe-battery-paving-the-way-for-renewable-energy-storage/

Yes it is only a small scale project but it is was funded because it made commerical sense.

The larger projects (like Pumped Hydro) are huge with potential life cycles of 70-100 years so development funding is often required, but these are often loan agreements any component which is grants are insignificant relative to the value they provide. The Kidston project for example has turned an old gold mining town into a commerical success hiring 900 people in a North Queensland town whilst generating on-demand power during peak times. No sensible person can argue against these type of projects.

Given how much support the fossil fuel industries get in the support of subsidies it really makes no sense to be critical of incentives for renewable projects unless you also support removing the billions of dollars of tax payer subsidies for the energy and oil and gas industries too?

I am saying all of this as a WDS shareholder. It just annoys me when people parrot nonsense talking points.

Go look at NEM. The transition is occuring inspite of what the LNP and ALP decide to do. The proof is in the fact renewables continue to make up a large percentage of generation.

Now looking at these charts we know there are a number of coal plants are reaching end of life and I would expect Gas to fill the gap as more on-demand renewable sources are comissioned as Hydro and Storage has been increasing but it isn't significant enough yet because the lead time of large projects (particuarly pumped hyrdo) are very long.
