My ChatGPT table had an error (apologies) and I can't edit it. The excise should be deducted from the retail price ($2.006) in this example, not from the pre-tax price but the point still remains. The part that is important is that the refund is not assessable where as the portion as an operating expense is treated like other expenses to the effective tax rate on fuel for these companies is substantially lower and that increases as the excise goes up and everyone else pays that tax and resources companies don't.
