STO has Pikka in Alaska with a near term finish date and it is within USA so no tarrifs etc. Possibly seeing value in that and value in it being a non AUS asset like PNG so Aussie govt cannot impose stupid laws on it. USA importing 5 mill plus barrels a day so any fully funded advanced projects are at a advantage under current trump politics and no one will invest for a 5 year project leadtime within USA as no idea what politics will be 3 years out.. Well they will invest / fund but at a appropriate risk rating - ie more expensive funding Both have goo asset and geographic spread and then it is a case of analysts preferences and market weighting.
Both are undervalued IMO and each has uplift news possible in near term. Possible there has been some switching and option plays happening as well along with usual dividend games skewing pricing.
Big money used to have along term view and look for deep value - now big $ is as flippant as a day trader and flinches at slightest news or delay as they want to actively manage position and risk as comparing to market and also competitors. Hence no specif reason for what often are large moves as players have access to so many facilities for options , shorting or index etc Be nice if WDS and STO knew their register better and announced in a different manner and clarified to whole market more of details on projects and more detail on pathway. No surprise they sit on so much info with so many "green" groups looking for any chink in the Armour .
